WorkAbility Movement Screen

WorkAbility Movement Screen

Overview

The traditional approach to workplace wellness has been shown to have a negative Return-On-Investment (ROI). This includes costly blood laboratory tests, but fails to address musculoskeletal health or fall risks. Workers with poor physical fitness or inactive lifestyles have more on-the-job injuries, lost productivity, absenteeism and healthcare costs.

WorkAbility Movement Screen is an affordable, mobile application to assess and motivate physical fitness of workers of all shapes and sizes. WorkAbility Network has pioneered a musculoskeletal fitness screen for applications of workplace wellness, post-offer employment screening, rehabilitation, and functional capacity evaluation. The WorkAbility Movement Screen includes validated tests of flexibility, balance, and agility that are appropriate for administration to workers of all shapes, sizes, and fitness levels.

This screen innovates the process for wellness assessments by assessing fall risk and musculoskeletal health. Musculoskeletal disorders cost the US Economy over 800 billion dollars, which is more than the combined cost of cardiopulmonary disorders and diabetes.

The standard WorkAbility Movement Screen Exam includes:

  • Body Size Measures - the screen begins with a gathering of demographics and body size measures to determine Body Mass Index (BMI) and Waist-to-Height (WtH) ratio.
  • Active Movement Screen - contains a total of 25 individual movements in order to assess musculoskeletal fitness. This evaluates a worker’s flexibility and balance as they perform movements such as squatting or standing on each leg for 15 seconds. These movements are rated on a scale from 0 (unable to perform) to 4 (normal movement).
  • Two Square Agility Test (TSAT) - is used to assess the dynamic agility to monitor physical fitness of working-age adults for applications such as workplace wellness, physical therapy, and disability evaluation. TSAT measures the time required for a subject to rapidly step forward and back between two squares that are demarked by metal tape.
  • Grip Strength Test (GST) - is a measure of right and lieft grip force that has established reliability, validity and normative data. This test can help identify pre-existing health conditions and establish a pre-injury baseline to assess progress in response to fitness or rehab interventions.
  • Physical Activity Review- the screen ends with a brief review of current physical activities and barriers to physical fitness.

Other physical fitness tests may be added, such as Resting HR & Blood Pressure, Near Vision, Far Vision, Pinch Strength, Sub-maximal Step Test, Lift Tests, etc.

Reports

Participants receive a physical fitness report card that contains objective findings and follow-up recommendations to encourage physical fitness, safety, and productivity. Sponsoring employers receive a participant list and database output without personal identifiers to evaluate workforce fitness needs and support HIPPA employer incentives for wellness programs.

Return On Investment (ROI)

  • Monitor and inspire physical fitness for less than one-third of the cost for a traditional biometric screening.

  • This movement screen contains more relevant measures about risk factors for falls or musculoskeletal disorders.

  • Screen may be administered within a small work space.
